John M Armleder
GOLD FISH
In 2016, on the occasion of the fifth gallery anniversary in Vienna the work JOHN M ARMLEDER FISH was presented, linking up with the first show held in the Viennese spaces in November 2011, JOHN M ARMLEDER LATE.
For the gallery's birthday the artist produced two editions: SILVER FISH and GOLD FISH. The plaids are made of cotton in a high and low weaving process, smooth and soft either in light grey and with a short very soft plush in black. Or with gold and light-blue showing an octopus in reversible colours.
With the titles and motifs, the artist refers once to Gustav Klimt, whose works decisively define Vienna‘s artistic identity. And secondly to another gallery artist‘s work, Walter Pichler‘s famous galaxy chair. The reference to Vienna and its artistic history, the site-specific examination of design and art creates a visual situation here that goes hand in hand with the question of cultural identity and homage.
