Since 2008, Peter Sandbichler has been producing numerous sculptures that he ironically calls Alte Schachtel (engl. old boxes). As the name suggests, the works are shaped from old cardboard boxes the artist deforms in a performative act in his studio, using his entire body weight, in such a way that their original form and functionality is lost. The manipulated cardboard is used once as the negative for the final sculpture, which is carried out by Sandbichler in different materials, such as plaster, UHPC (ultra high performance concrete), bronze and aluminum castings or GRP (glass-fibre reinforced plastic). The cardboard model can only be used once in this process, therefor all works are unique.

In 2023, Sandbichler creats a miniature version of his well-known sculpture Alte Schachtel, that is produced as a multiple.
