Siegfried Anzinger
Siegfried Anzinger
Cologne-based Siegfried Anzinger (*1953 in Weyer, Upper Austria) is one of the leading exponents of New Painting, which helped art to achieve new spontaneity, sensuality and subjectivity in the early 1980s. His bright, colourful palette revolves around the subject of the figure. From only vaguely abstractly suggested bodies to gentle line work to detailed elaborate scenes bordering on comic and comical, the viewer finds a wealth of painterly expressions and motifs: Madonnas with oversized noses, grotesque depictions of saints, naked women on trees or episodes from the world of cowboys and Indians. Despite the narrative content, the pictures always refer beyond what is depicted to painting as painting. Based on current works, the extensive catalogue presents the artist's oeuvre of paintings, drawings and sculptures.
